STUDIO COURSES
Learn printmaking in my studioNew Courses 2024
At the moment we are in the middle of building a new studio and also moving house! This means the programme of courses is currently on hold.
I plan to be running some courses in the new studio, most likely in late summer and autumn 2024. As soon as I am able to confirm the dates I will email everybody on my mailing list with details of the new prograamme.
Courses tend to fill up quickly, please sign up to my email list for priority info about new courses, as this is the best way to reserve your place. I am open to requests as well; just gather 3 people together and email me to discuss what you would like to do and when, and we’ll get it in the diary. I have a list of good places to stay locally if you need overnight accommodation, just let me know and I’ll send it to you.
Mono printing from nature
This is a chance to spend a creative day celebrating the natural world, and exploring colour and form. Mono printing is direct and immediate, each print is unique and you will make quite a few on this one-day course. Using moss, seaweed, leaves, feathers, seeds and grasses, this is a lovely course for gardeners and naturalists as well as printmakers. Whether you are a complete beginner or have lots of printmaking experience, you will end the day with a bundle of your own unique prints, and the knowledge of how to use this magical printing process in your future creative work.
Viscosity mono printing
The viscosity method produces infinite variations on multi coloured prints. This day is a freewheeling adventure into the world of colour. Mono printing is a great way into understanding how the viscosity method works; the handout explains it, but this doesn’t always explain the surprising results!
Both viscosity and mono printing combine well with many other techniques, so you will leave the course with lots of new ideas for extending your work.
Exploring carborundum printmaking
This free flowing and painterly technique can be combined with other methods, eg drypoint, or used by itself. Carborundum grit holds ink and produces richly coloured and textured prints. We will experiment with carborundum in different forms (powder, paint, paper) and create a series of layered plates to overprint in various combinations.
Exploring collagraphs
This weekend is for those with some experience of collagraph printmaking. The course content is planned in consultation with students so we can cover specific areas which are of interest to you.
Please also feel free to bring plates you have made previously, and which you would like help with.

Can I arrange extra dates?
Yes. If you can’t make any of the programmed dates, just gather a group of 3 or 4 people together and we can fix a date that suits. Choose from any of the advertised courses or we can devise one especially for your particular group.
